Three-bedroom apartment, recently renovated and furnished to a high standard and fully equipped, perfect for a small family or professionals sharing. Walking or biking distance to FAO, and a short commute to WFP or IFAD. All new appliances (large Samsung fridge, dishwasher, Miele washing machine, Smeg 5-burner stove and large oven). Brand new A/C units in every room. One bathroom, with a shower stall and a separate bathtub. Widescreen TV, large couch and Persian carpet in the living area, attached to the eat-in kitchen. Plenty of wardrobe space, all conveniences (tableware, cutlery etc.). Microwave, toaster. Fibre internet connection with Wifi, plus LAN in bedrooms and the living room. Two internal bedrooms have French doors/small balconies that open onto an interior courtyard, so the house has a lot of light. Second floor, no elevator - but a short walk up.
Looking for the right tenants to move into his beautiful apartment that we've taken great care to make our home. Want to go for day trips? Take the high speed train from Termini across Italy - also walking distance. Tons of good local eateries, lots of international cuisine all packed into this still authentic Roman neighbourhood. A short walk also to San Lorenzo, for a change of pace.
Third bedroom could also be used as a study, as the single bed in that room is in a loft.
Dating back to the Unification of Italy, the neighbourhood has marks of the 'umbertino' architectural style of the monarchy from the late 19th century, typical of the Piemonte region from which they hailed. The area was developed to house employees of the newly formed country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The main piazza, Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, is Rome's largest. Underneath is another layer of nobility, with the ruins of the estates of some of ancient Rome's most prestigious families visitable in hidden corners across the rione.
The area boasts everything, including international and local eateries, a well-supplied open air market, several great pharmacies, a huge electronics and home goods shop, wine bars, historic pastry shops (Panella, d'Amore and Regoli all with their own house specialities), a coffee house that wafts wonderful aromas across the neighbourhood when they set themselves to roasting the beans, and an excellent forno/bakery, again a local landmark.
The best thing about the area is the transport, linking to all areas of Rome and indeed all across Italy, with Termini train station a short walk away, so you can jump on a train on a whim, no hassle, for a weekend in Venice or wherever strikes your fancy.
Pope Francis' tomb is also just outside the door, at Santa Maria Maggiore, one of Rome's five major basilicas, and one of the most beautiful.
While the area is alive into the wee hours, via Conte Verde is quiet and leafy, with only two buses that pass occasionally.
Trams, buses, the metro are all outside the door, as well as Termini, including its trains to Fiumicino airport. This neighbourhood has it all. Parking is more of a challenge, but that is the norm for Rome. Parking does tend to free up around 7 pm on weekdays, when many shop owners close up. So for commuters, not the end of the world.
